I'm Glad I Did... and Dunford Doughnuts

Dearest Family,

안녕하세요!!! How are all of you? First of all, thank you so very much for your dear elder letters, emails, and hand written letters. They make my day! Thank you for being positive, supportive, and encouraging. It has made all the difference. :) I am praying for all of you and I hope you all know how very much I love and appreciate you!

So, this week has been pretty much like every other week, except the pneumonia bug and cold bug has attacked all of my district. I have been using hand sanitizer and taking vitamin c like candy. I am starting to feel the tickle in my throat that turns into a cold, so I am taking medicine and praying I can nip in in the bud before it turns into anything worse. I found out that I get my travel plans in 3 weeks. I cannot believe that I have been here for a month already. Time has gone by so quickly, it is ridiculous.

Anyways, we had a really good devotional on Sunday given by Elder and Sister Hinckley. Elder Hinckley said something that really stood out to me. We should live every day so that when we think back on what we did before we go to sleep we can say "I'm glad I did," and not "I wish I would have." I have tried to apply that this week as I study and as I am listening in class. Oh! It was recorded and broadcasted to all the MTC's in the world, and since I was in the choir, I was on the big screen for a couple seconds. I do not know if it is available for public viewing, but I wanted to let you know anyways. During my personal study I finished the war chapters of Alma. These chapters used to be my least favorite in the Book of Mormon, but they teach really important lessons. One lesson that stood out to me was how in one of the first battles with the Lamanites and Nephites, the Nephites came prepared while the Lamanites came wearing only a loincloth. They were clearly not prepared with their dress to defend themselves and as a result, many died. Every single day, we need to make sure we put on the armor of God so that when the temptations and fiery darts of the adversary come we can defend ourselves and arise victorious.

Heavenly Father is really helping me with my Korean. I still can't speak it very well, but I can understand more and more of it every day. I finally learned how to tell time! Korea uses two number systems, the Korean numbers and the Chinese numbers. The Chinese numbers and system is easier for me to remember. Yesterday during gym time I learned the Korean system, well at least how to count to 19. On the elliptical machine with every stride I took I said the Korean number out loud, as did one of my companions. And towards the end I was going really fast and saying the numbers equally fast.

Also, during my personal study I read about receiving answers to prayers. We need to pray, but after we pray, we need to listen. The Holy Ghost does not speak loudly, but it whispers. If we are not paying attention then we will not be able to hear the words, thoughts or impressions that the Holy Ghost tells us. So often we get caught up in our busy lives that we do not listen. We watched the 3 part Mormon Message, Patters of Light by David A Bednar, in class Monday. I really like what he said about how light dispels darkness and that the two cannot exist together. Kind of how in Matthew it talks about how we cannot serve God and Mammon, we cannot have darkness if light is inside of us. Also, how in 1 John chapter 4, it talks about how love and fear cannot coexist within us. It gave me something to think about this week. Personal study time is my absolute favorite time of the day, because I can read the scriptures for myself and I can take a short break from the busy schedule of the MTC.

So, when I got the dunford doughnuts from Grandma Julie, I actually cried a little. I was so excited. I know its a bit ridiculous to cry over doughnuts, and I didn't full on cry, but it was more like I teared up a little bit. Please thank her very much for them. I will write her a letter later today. Thank you so much for the family pictures! I have them in my language binder and I look at it every day. The card with the sushi on it was great! I cannot wait to eat real Korean food. And, thank you for the package of treats. It has been perfect for my late night snack cravings.

Please thank Sister Mecham, Uncle Jon, Grandma Julie, Grandpa Joe, Grant and Noah for their letters. I will write them back as soon as I can!
I apologize for not having any pictures this week. I will try to remember to take some this week. I love you all with all of my heart! I hope everything is going well. You are all the best!

사랑합니다!!! <3

Love, Goodnough 자매
